GEAR REVIEW – RUKUS SOLAR MUSIC PLAYER

It is large, heavy, plays extremely directional sound, and isn’t waterproof; but I still love this ugly chunk of plastic.  The newer models seem to address many of these issues, but I hope not at the expense of durability.  Our Rukus has survived all sorts of abuse over the 6 years we have owned it: thrown into a duffel bag and flown across the country, left out in the rain all night, covered in sand countless times, and frequently goes months between uses.  Plus, we charge our electronic devices off of its solar panels with the USB port on the back.

Verdict:  Recommended.  There are smaller, lighter devices that offer better sound, but being able to go somewhere for a week and not have to worry about battery life or breaking a $250 music player is pretty fricking nice.
